How to Pray and Get Your Prayers Answered

Have you ever poured your heart out in prayer and felt... nothing? Like your words evaporated into the air. You're not alone. Even some of the greatest heroes of faith wrestled with silence and despair in prayer. And yet, they found a breakthrough. And so will you. "God, Yahweh, 'I AM', He is God!"

📖 Exodus 3:14 (NKJV)

“And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

📖 Isaiah 45:5-6 (NIV)

“I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God... so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me.”

📖 Deuteronomy 6:4 (ESV)

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”

"GOD is not a magician."

📖 Numbers 23:19 (NLT)

“God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”

"He has a will"

📖 Ephesians 1:11 (NIV)

“In him we were also chosen... according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.”

“Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.”

📖 Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord…”

📖 Romans 12:2 (ESV)

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”


 Sometimes, our prayers go unanswered not because God is unwilling, but because our hearts, motives, or spiritual posture are misaligned with His will. The Bible gives several reasons for unanswered prayer. One key reason is unconfessed sin or rebellion:

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.” – Psalm 66:18 (KJV)

Another reason is selfish or impure motives:

“You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” – James 4:3 (NKJV)

Sometimes, our lack of faith also stands in the way:

“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting... for let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord.” – James 1:6-7 (NKJV)

And other times, it’s simply a matter of God’s perfect timing or greater plan, which we may not yet understand:

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. – Isaiah 55:8 (NKJV)

💔 1. Come to God with Raw, Honest Emotion

“I cry out to You, O God, but You do not answer; I stand up, but You merely look at me.” – Job 30:20
“Out of the depths I cry to You, O Lord!” – Psalm 130:1

Job didn’t sugarcoat his prayers—he came broken, grieving, angry, and confused. And yet God never rebuked his honesty. In fact, it was Job’s raw relationship with God that positioned him for restoration (Job 42:10).

“The LORD restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends…” – Job 42:10

You don’t need perfect words. You need a sincere heart.

🙏 2. Pray According to God's Will, Just Like Jesus

“Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.” – Luke 22:42

Even Jesus, in the Garden of Gethsemane, wrestled with the will of the Father. True power in prayer comes when we surrender our desires to God’s higher plan. Trust in his plans for your life. The bible says they are good thoughts not of evil, to give you an expected end.

🌊 3. Pray in Faith – Even When Everything Around You Looks Hopeless

“Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” – Job 13:15
“Let him ask in faith, with no doubting…” – James 1:6

Faith isn’t pretending things are okay. Faith is trusting God when they’re not. Hannah, weeping in the temple over her barrenness, prayed from her soul—and left with peace before the answer came (1 Samuel 1:10-18). Later, God gave her Samuel.

⏳ 4. Be Persistent – Delay Is Not Denial

“Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” – Luke 18:1

Think of Elijah—he prayed for rain seven times (1 Kings 18:43). Not once. Not twice. Seven persistent times before the cloud appeared. And when it did, a downpour followed.

“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” – James 5:16b

🤍 5. Purify Your Heart and Walk in Forgiveness

“If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.” – Psalm 66:18
“When you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them…” – Mark 11:25

Sometimes, unanswered prayer is not about God's unwillingness—it's about heart posture. Bitterness, unrepentance, and offense can block answers. Clear the clutter. Make room for grace.

🕊️ 6. Add Thanksgiving and Worship to Your Prayer Life

“In everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” – Philippians 4:6
“At midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns… and suddenly there was a great earthquake…” – Acts 16:25-26

Thanksgiving turns prayer into worship. It shifts your eyes from the need to the One who provides. It breaks chains, as it did for Paul and Silas, and invites divine intervention.

✝️ 7. Always Pray in the Name and Authority of Jesus

“If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” – John 14:14
“There is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” – Acts 4:12

The name of Jesus gives you spiritual access. It seals your prayer with power. It reminds hell that you belong to heaven.

📖Answered Prayers in the Bible:

  • Hannah’s desperate cry (1 Samuel 1:10–20) – God gave her Samuel.

  • Daniel’s humble fasting and prayer (Daniel 10:12) – His prayer was answered from day one, though delayed by spiritual warfare.

  • Hezekiah’s prayer for healing (Isaiah 38:2–5) – God extended his life by 15 years.

  • Elijah’s prayer for fire (1 Kings 18:36–38) – God answered instantly with fire from heaven.

  • Jonah’s prayer from the belly of a fish (Jonah 2) – God caused the fish to spit him out.

“This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.” – Psalm 34:6

💬 When You Don’t Feel Heard, Remember This...

You’re not praying into the void. You’re praying into the hands of a loving Father. Even when answers are delayed, He is still working, still weaving, still faithful.

“Call to Me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things.” – Jeremiah 33:3
“Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.” – Isaiah 65:24

So pray with passion. Pray with tears. Pray with faith. And pray until heaven breaks through.
