 God Still Speaks

Have you ever asked, “God, are You speaking to me?”
You're not alone. In a world filled with distractions, noise, and conflicting voices, it can feel overwhelming to discern the still, gentle whisper of the Lord. Yet, He still speaks—just as He did to Abraham, Moses, Samuel, and Paul.

Hearing God is not reserved for prophets or pastors. It is the birthright of every believer. The challenge is not whether God speaks, but whether we have positioned our hearts to listen.

God Speaks in Many Ways—Are We Listening?

God’s voice is not always audible, but it is always accessible. He speaks through:

  • His Word (the Bible)

  • The Holy Spirit

  • Inner impressions and peace

  • Dreams and visions

  • Godly counsel

  • Creation and circumstances

 The Foundation: The Word of God

The Bible is God’s voice in print. If we want to recognize His voice in other ways, we must become intimately familiar with His voice in Scripture.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God…” — 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)

Scripture is the measuring rod. God will never speak something that contradicts His written Word. If you want to hear Him clearly, open your Bible regularly. Often, He will highlight a verse, repeat a theme, or use it to stir something deep within.

The Role of the Holy Spirit

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit... will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” — John 14:26 (NASB)

The Holy Spirit is not just a comforter; He is a communicator. As you walk with Him daily, He brings conviction, confirmation, and clarity.

Cultivate sensitivity to the Holy Spirit through prayer, worship, and silence. The more you walk with Him, the more you’ll know when it’s Him speaking.

 Quiet Your Soul to Hear Clearly

God doesn’t compete with chaos. He speaks in peace.

“Be still and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

If you’re constantly distracted, anxious, or rushing, you may miss Him. God often speaks in quietness and stillness, not in the earthquake, wind, or fire—but in the gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:11–12).

Create moments of intentional silence—in your car, in the early morning, or before bed. Invite Him to speak.


 Test What You Hear

Not every thought, dream, or voice is from God. Scripture teaches us to:

“Test the spirits to see whether they are from God.” — 1 John 4:1 (ESV)

Ask these questions:

  • Does this align with Scripture?

  • Does it glorify God or self?

  • Does it bring peace, conviction, or confusion?

  • Is it confirmed through other mature believers?

God may speak something unexpected—but never contradictory to His nature.

Be Willing to Obey

Sometimes we don’t hear God because, deep down, we’ve already decided what we want Him to say.

“Why call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not the things which I say?” — Luke 6:46 (KJV)

Hearing God’s voice is not about curiosity—it’s about relationship and obedience. When you say, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:9), mean it. He’s not just looking for hearers—but doers.

Journal the Journey

One of the best practices in learning to hear God is writing it down. Keep a journal of:

  • Scriptures that stand out

  • Dreams or impressions

  • Words of encouragement or conviction

  • Prayers and God’s responses over time

Over time, you’ll see a pattern of God’s faithfulness and voice that will strengthen your faith.

Prayer to Hear God’s Voice

Heavenly Father, open my ears to Your voice. Quiet every noise that competes for my attention. Holy Spirit, teach me to recognize Your whisper. Let my heart be tender, humble, and obedient to Your leading. I want to walk in intimacy with You and not miss a word You speak. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

 God Is Speaking… Are You Listening?

Hearing God is not a mystical art—it is a fruit of deepening relationship. He longs to speak more than we long to listen. The more you seek Him, the more clearly you will hear.

“Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” — Jeremiah 33:3 (NIV)

So, lean in.
Listen.
Write it down.
And follow wherever His voice leads.
