“The Curse of Cultural Christianity: Trading Holiness for Acceptance”

 

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil… who put darkness for light and light for darkness…”
— Isaiah 5:20 (NKJV)

In today’s culture—saturated with affirmation, self-will, and emotional entitlement—a popular phrase has crept into even the Church:
“God accepts me the way I am.”

It sounds compassionate. It feels affirming. It draws applause. But is it biblical truth, or a doctrine of demons dressed in soft language?

Let’s be clear: God loves us in our brokenness, but He does not leave us there. His love is holy, transformative, and always accompanied by a call to repentance and change. To claim God “accepts me as I am” without transformation is not grace—it’s rebellion with a smile.

The Lie That Undermines Repentance

The enemy is cunning. If he cannot stop you from believing in God, he will distort your view of Him. And one of his favorite tactics is to reduce the holy, majestic, and sovereign God into an accommodating, passive figure who exists only to validate human desires.

This is the spirit of Cain.

“By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain… God testifying of his gifts… and through it he being dead still speaks.”
— Hebrews 11:4

Cain chose his own way to worship. He ignored God’s clear requirement for a blood sacrifice. He brought what pleased himself—not what pleased God. And God rejected it.

Dr. Derek Prince once said:

“Cain’s religion is man’s religion—offering to God what we think is acceptable, while ignoring what God actually requires.”

The idea that we can come to God on our terms is not new—it’s ancient rebellion resurfacing in modern rhetoric.

Sin Invites Consequences — Not Just for You

Sin is not a private matter.

“But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out.”
— Numbers 32:23 (NKJV)

When one person embraces sin, they fall under divine displeasure. When a family accepts or justifies that sin, they invite spiritual consequences. When a community normalizes it, that culture inherits corruption and judgment.

“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
— Proverbs 14:34

Satan knows this. That’s why he aggressively pushes a doctrine of emotional guilt:
“You must accept people’s sin or you’re hateful.”
The devil isn’t just tempting individuals—he’s attempting to defile entire communities by normalizing what God hates.

Myles Munroe warned:

“Where purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable. When the purpose of holiness is abandoned, lawlessness rushes in to fill the void.”

God Is Not a Concept—He Is a King

God is not a figment of your feelings. He is not your truth. He is.

“I AM WHO I AM.”
— Exodus 3:14

God has a will, a heart, emotions, and a standard. He loves righteousness and hates sin. He rejoices, grieves, and is provoked to anger.

  • He is Holy – Isaiah 6:3

  • He is Just – Deuteronomy 32:4

  • He is Jealous – Exodus 34:14

  • He is Compassionate – Psalm 103:13

  • He is Immutable – Malachi 3:6

  • He is Love – 1 John 4:8

  • He is also Judge – Revelation 20:12

He is not confused, tolerant of rebellion, or swayed by culture. He has revealed Himself in Jesus Christ, who came not to validate us in sin, but to rescue us from it.

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
— Luke 19:10

Jesus Didn’t Say “Stay as You Are” — He Said “Repent”

Jesus didn’t preach acceptance. He preached repentance. He didn’t pat sinners on the back—He called them out of darkness into light.

To the woman caught in adultery, He offered mercy but concluded with:

“Go, and sin no more.” — John 8:11

To the rich young ruler, He said:

“Sell all you have… then come, follow Me.” — Luke 18:22

To the Pharisees, He said:

“Woe to you… hypocrites!” — Matthew 23

Jesus’ love is real, but it is also piercing. It calls you out. It wounds the pride but heals the soul. His message has never changed:

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
— Matthew 4:17

The True Christian Must Rise

Now more than ever, the Church must shed cowardice and embrace conviction.
It’s time to stop tiptoeing around sin in the name of love.
It’s time to stop calling God’s judgment “harsh” and calling our rebellion “freedom.”
It’s time to honor the God who is, not the one we’ve invented.

“You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.”
— Leviticus 19:2

Leonard Ravenhill once said:

“The Church used to be a lifeboat rescuing the perishing. Now it’s a cruise ship recruiting the promising.”

Let’s return to the narrow road. Let’s preach repentance. Let’s uphold God’s standard. Let’s tell the truth in love, but let it be the truth.

GOD LOVES YOU!

Yes, God loves you. But love that leaves you in bondage is not from God.
He doesn’t just want your heart—He wants your life.
And He will not accept what He came to crucify.

“Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”
— 2 Corinthians 6:17

No more Cain worship. No more custom Christianity.
Let us give Him what He desires: a broken spirit, a contrite heart, and a life fully surrendered.
